If you are the Owner of a motor vessel and your Insurance Company has requested an Insurance Survey, it is very likely that the vessel will need to be lifted ashore. Depending on the size of the vessel, the external hull survey of a typical GRP motor yacht will take ninety minutes to two hours to complete, so please make sure that the yard staff are prepared to keep her ashore for this time.

As part of your vessel's routine maintenance schedule, it is suggested that you also plan for the likelihood that the anodes, if any, will need to be replaced. Don't forget that bow thrusters, trim tabs, metallic rudder assemblies and outdrive units will have their own anodes that might be decayed. The performance of these routine tasks may demand that your vessel stays ashore for longer than just a few hours.

As with all types of marine survey, whether motor yachts, sailing yachts or houseboats, it is usual for the Owner or Buyer to arrange and pay for the lift-out fees. In most cases, a power-wash of the hull should also be booked, in order to clean the hull and submerged equipment. This will enable the marine surveyor to perform the best possible inspection of the exposed surfaces.
